CO and HI observations towards the supernova remnant G84.2-0.8 are presented. The CO observations, made with the 3-m KOSMA telescope with a resolution of 3.8 arcmin reveal strong emission near -17km s-1 overlapping the west of the remnant. This CO cloud coincides with the brightest radio continuum emission from the remnant, a region that shows little radio polarization. If this is not a chance association it suggests an interaction between the G84.2-0.8 and the material in the local spiral arm. This interaction is also supported by H I observations made with the DRAO Synthesis Telescope with a resolution of ≍ 1 × 1.5 arcmin2 (EW x NS). The CO cloud is also associated with a large (≍ 1°) H I ridge. The association of the SNR with the CO and H I implies a distance of ≍4 kpc for the remnant, which is smaller than has been thought previously.
