Over a dozen hot Jupiters are now being observed with the Spitzer Space Telescope in transit, secondary eclipse, or for orbital phase variation. These measurements are seeking to answer fundamental questions about the properties of this class of exoplanet, including: how much heat is being redistributed from the constant, heavily irradiated daysides to the dark nightsides, and how is this reflected in the global photospheric temperature structures? Basic dynamical arguments, together with some atmospheric models, have indicated that there may exist large jets or vortices that would create motion in the photospheric structure and lead to temporal variation in planet-wide thermal emission. Observed variation in secondary eclipse depth, or lack thereof, would constrain the permanence of the dayside temperature structure and inform future modeling efforts. To this end, we present an analysis comparing two identical Spitzer 24 micron observations of the secondary eclipse of the transiting planet HD 209458b. We compare the calculated eclipse depths and provide possible interpretation of the results.
