Site Survey, Seeing, Infrared Astronomy

Scientific paper

Institute of Astronomy, University of Tokyo has a plan to construct a 6.5 m telescope optimized to the near- to mid-infrared wavelength on a peak of Atacama desert in Chile, which is at very high altitude above 5,600 m. We have started a site survey to evaluate the site, and obtained some data of weather and seeing. The results suggest that this site has a potential to become a very good site for an infrared telescope. We report a summary of the survey and the results in this article.
