Scientific paper

We briefly explain Eratosthenes' method for the measurement of the meridian of the Earth, and based on modern astronomy and celestial mechanics we describe the errors inherent in his measurement. Also, we stress the significance of Eratosthenes' method to cartography, geography and astronomy. Finally, introducing new aspects of this method we show how it can be used in order to find the size and shape of the Earth's surface using curvature theory.
