The dynamics of an ablating hypervelocity body during passage through a planetary atmosphere are investigated using the method of matched asymptotic expansions. Using this methodology, analytic solutions are obtained which uniformly represent the motion of such a body from exo-atmospheric to endo-atmospheric flight in closed form. The ablative mass loss of the body is synthesized with the Keplerian exo-atmospheric solution to produce an analysis that couples the changing body mass to its flight dynamics. As such, accurate ablative mass losses and drag-induced energy losses may be explicitly obtained from exo-atmospheric initial conditions (orbital elements).
