We present circular and linear imaging polarimetry observations of HL Tau at near-infrared (JHK) wavelengths. Linear polarization degree is typically 20-40% at the northeast and southwest, as previosly observed, and decreases as the wavelength increases. On the other hand, the degree is typically 0-20% at the equatorial region of the envelope along the northwest to southeast, and increases with wavelength. Upper limits of circular polarization degree (0.5-2%) are also obtained in all bands. Monte-Carlo simulations are used for further investigation of density distribution and grain size in the envelope. Observed linear polarization can be explaind by cavities at the northeast and the southwest, the density of which is lower than the equatorial region by a factor of 0.01-0.1. The simulations also suggested that the maximum grain raduis is ~0.5 micron in the envelope, and smaller at the cavites.
