Scientific paper

The Third Interplanetary Network for cosmic gamma-ray bursts began with the launch of the Ulysses spacecraft in October 1990, and has operated continuously since then. Over two dozen spacecraft or experiments have been incorporated into it over the years; today it comprises six spacecraft, which detect about 200 gamma-ray bursts per year. The composition of the network is reviewed, and some of the factors affecting the accuracy and rapidity of the localizations are explained. Future operations are discussed.
