Number counts of K(2.2 micrometers)-selected galaxies reaching to K = 23 mag are compared to model predictions which take into account the selection bias against high-redshift galaxies inherent in the methods used to detect faint galaxy images. Using a standard model for galaxy luminosity evolution with a constant comoving density of galaxies, we find that these number count data favor a flat, low-density Omega0 approximatly 0.2 universe with a nonzero cosmological constant. We argue that the agreement with the model predictions for a low-density universe considerably diminishes any need to introduce a hypothetical population to explain the excess galaxies found in deep blue surveys.
