We have used the Kalnajs (1977) matrix method to study these modes, and have investigated how they depend on the orbital population of disks. Lynden-Bell (1979) categorized orbits as either abnormal, if they tend to align with a bar-like perturbation, or normal if they do not. We study the effects of the varying sizes of these populations on modes. While total angular momentum is conserved, modes transfer angular momentum by taking it from some Fourier components and adding it to others, in the manner predicted by Lynden-Bell and Kalnajs (1972). Similarly modes transfer energy, kinetic and potential, between Fourier components, their total also being conserved.
