Published photoelectric UBV photometry of stars in the angular vicinity (radius = 15') of three planetary nebulae was used to construct a reddening distance relation for the line of sight towards each planetary nebula. This relation was confirmed by data on nearby stars and star clusters from the literature. The distances derived are 800 +/- 300 pc for PN G128.0-04.1 (S 188, Simeiz 22), 800 +/- 400 pc for PN G149.4-09.2 (HDW 3), and 1100 +/- 300 pc for PN G224.9+01.0 (We 1-6).
