Multicolor photometry and polarimetry of the binary system AM Herculis, obtained in September 1979, is presented. From the wavelength dependence of the circular polarization curve a geometrical model is derived for the system. By comparison with earlier observations it is found that changes in the orientation of the system must have occurred. It is proposed that the rotation axis of the white dwarf is inclined to the orbital axis of the binary and precesses about it.
