A survey is given of observations of Magellanic Cloud stars carried out by French astronomers. The stars observed in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) that are described include two unusual groups of high-radial-velocity stars, Wolf-Rayet stars, and O-type supergiants. Determinations of the distance modulus of the LMC are discussed along with searches for the optical counterparts of the X-ray sources LMC X-1, X-2, and X-5. Studies of high-velocity stars that are proven or probable members of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) are reviewed which indicate that stars in the northern part of the SMC are brighter than those in the southern part. Observations of SMC supergiants are briefly noted, and attempts to determine the metal abundance in the Magellanic Clouds are examined.
