As a result of a new laboratory analysis of the spectrum of five times ionized nickel (Ni VI), some unclassified lines in the emission spectrum of the nova-like variable RR Tel have been identified as forbidden transitions of this ion. Comparisons between the spectra of RR Tel and of Eta Car have resulted in the possible identification of forbidden lines of Fe V, VI and Ni V and VI in the spectrum of Eta Car. Such high ionization stages have not previously been identified in this object.
