Photometric observations of HR 1099 in V and B obtained on 18 nights between January and March 1977 are presented. It is found that the amplitude of the asymmetric light curve is 0.10 + or - 0.004 magnitude in both V and B. On three occasions (JD 2443164.17, JD 2443176.14, JD 2443177.12), it was found that the star brightened by approximately 0.05 magnitude. Four H alpha spectrograms at 42 A per mm dispersion, obtained during October-November 1978, are discussed, and it is noted that the profile and equivalent width of H alpha on Nov. 14, 1978, suggest a probable major outburst. It is shown that the amplitude and shape of the light curve change in a few orbital periods and that the phase of the minimum light migrated toward decreasing orbital phase during the interval JD 2442720 to JD 2443000. From JD 2443200 there is almost a linear increase of the phase of the minimum light. It is also shown that the phase of the light minimum sometimes exhibits to and fro behavior suggesting that the migration of the wave is not occurring smoothly.
