We apply the theory of the Liapunov characteristic numbers to the investigation of the stochasticity of orbits in the 2/1 Kirkwood gap which were previously studied by the authors with the graphical surface of section method. The computation of the largest Liapunov characteristic number for these orbits indicates a very weak stochasticity which supports the previous findings that even the few "ergodic" orbits in the Kirkwood gaps are surprisingly stable.
