The types of relation between X-ray and infrared emission are outlined, and examples are given of the identification of X-ray sources and infrared objects. The possible uses of high precision in the location of the X-ray sources are analyzed for (1) the identification of the infrared counterpart of distant galactic sources, (2) search for peaks of X-ray emission in coincidence with peaks of infrared emission at the galactic center, (3) the location of the X-ray source with respect to the infrared peak in extragalactic sources, (4) search for infrared counterparts of the unidentified X-ray objects, and (5) identification and observation of the infrared counterpart of transient sources.
