The scientific return expected from the EXOSAT low energy broadband
spectrometer, and the optimal imaging telescope grating spectrometer are
discussed. The X-ray sources which could be investigated are: point
sources, extended sources (supernova remnants and extragalactic
clusters), and the interstellar medium.
