More than 500 spectra in the 2 to 5 micrometer range were obtained by the spectrophotometer on board the Mars 5 station. A typical spectrum was obtained on the 25 February 1974 track when the zenith distance of the sun was -45.0 deg and that of the station was -30.1 deg. In this spectrum, the radiation levels measured at the frequencies of the narrow-band filter of the spectrophotometer are compared with the brightness of the reflected solar radiation. The observed distribution coincides well with the first calculated curve, except for two dips which are explained by the adsorption bands of carbon dioxide and crystalline water.
