A study is reported of the harmonic components of the 71-sec periodicity in DQ Her, and the results are shown to place severe limits on the available models of the variation. The power spectrum of DQ Her is plotted and found to be sinusoid of remarkable purity with a small harmonic contribution to the power occurring only at the frequency of the first harmonic. Two major groups of models are noted, which have been advanced to explain the variation: nonradial white dwarf pulsations and a rotating white dwarf with a dipole magnetic field.
