A model of quasistellar objects is described in which infrared and optical photons are produced by the following sequence: supernova ejecta produce both plasma oscillations and a high electron temperature. The oscillations in turn produce transverse oscillations. These photons are then heated, first by interaction with the plasmons and later by inverse Compton collisions. A luminosity of 10 to the 47-th power ergs/sec peaking near 100 microns can be achieved in a dimension of 50-100 quadrillion cm, given a galactic nucleus of that dimension containing 100 million stars and a gas density of 100 million electrons per cu cm, and either supernovae or energetic stellar collisions with 50-solar-mass ejecta of several MeV per nucleon energy.
