During the period December 1961-June 1962 observations of 8-kmc atmospheric noise were conducted at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, W. Va., using a TWT switched-load radiometer. A fixed 12-foot parabolic antenna was used as receiving antenna. The purpose of the observations was to investigate the fluctuation of atmospheric thermal noise, with particular regard to practical sensitivity of radio astronomical observations in the microwave region.
