This paper discusses the relationship between science goals and design
responses for the Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer
(NICMOS). NICMOS is one of three astronomical instruments being
considered for orbital replacement on the Hubble Space Telescope
scheduled for launch in the summer of 1989.
