The ohmic decay of magnetic fields in polytropic and polytrope-like stellar models is investigated when the field is constrained to satisfy the equation of hydrostatic equilibrium. The decay rate of the slowest decaying mode is altered only slightly from the classical decay time. However, the non-linear dynamical interaction ensures that higher modes decay at the same rate as the fundamental.
