Spectroscopic observations of the B-type eclipsing binary HV 2226 are reported for the first time. The resultant radial velocities are combined with an analysis of accurate CCD photometry by Jensen et al. (1988) to derive component masses of 9.3 + or - 0.7 and 5.6 + or - 0.5 solar. The radii are 5.6 + or - 0.2 and 5.3 + or - 0.2 solar, with the secondary component filling its Roche lobe. A distance modulus of (mV-MV)0 = 18.6 + or - 0.3 mag is derived. It is pointed out that distance moduli with uncertainties of +0.15 mag can be obtained from accurate radial velocities, light curves, and color indices of eclipsing binaries.
