Experimental results on the ionospheres of Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus, obtained during the Pioneer Venus, Viking-1 and -2, Pioneer-10 and -11, and Voyager-1 and -2 space missions, are reviewed. In the discussion of Venus, attention is given to the evolution of the orbit, the neutral atmosphere, the ion composition and total ion concentration, electron and ion temperatures, and the solar wind interaction. Theoretical modeling is of particular interest in the discussion of the outer planets.
