Continuous Spectra, Hot Stars, Stellar Spectra, Forbidden Bands, Spectral Energy Distribution

The continuum of HM Sge in the 3600-7000-A range has been examined on spectrograms of 160-A dispersion at H-gamma, taken in December 1976 with an objective prism on the 70/100/210-cm Maksutov telescope of the Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory. The energy distribution corrected for interstellar absorption is anomalous and cannot be attributed to any single source. A large emission Balmer jump is present. A model for the HM Sge system is proposed, with a dense nebula (electron density at least about 1 million per cu cm) surrounding a hot star. At a wavelength of approximately 5000 A the intensity ratio of the stellar and nebular continua is 2.5:1.
