It is found that the sense of asymmetry in the double radio structure of quasars depends on radio luminosity. In quasars with log F(500) approximately equal to or less than 27.0, the usual Mackay-type asymmetry prevails, similarly as in radio galaxies. In quasars of higher luminosity the sense of asymmetry is reversed, with the brighter component being in about 75 percent of the cases more distant than the fainter one. It is suggested that this dependence could be due to the varying fraction of radiation coming from hot spots (the Jenkins and McEllin relation). There is some evidence from the relation between distance ratio Q and flux ratio fr that relativistic motion of high luminosity hot spots might cause the contrary asymmetry.
