RF and optical observations of the gravitational-lens system 0957 + 561 have been used to estimate a simple deflector model's five parameters. All observed properties are accounted for. The compact nucleus is of paramount importance in this model, because conventional surface-density profiles are insufficiently centrally condensed to account for relative magnification. The main contributor to the uncertainty in the coefficient of the expression for H0 is primarily due to the weakness of the constraint placed on mass distributions by the image observables. A measurement of the velocity dispersion would yield 'point' estimates for three of the five parameters, and would determine the amount of 'dark matter' in the deflector.
