The problem of the helium abundance in galactic globular clusters is discussed in light of two recent theoretical developments - the inclusion of semiconvection in horizontal-branch models and the explanation of the red edge of the RR Lyrae gap. These two results predict substantially different helium abundances. We propose alterations in red-giant models which can reduce, but by no means remove, the discrepancy.
