Observations of stellar intensity are difficult at more than 56 deg from zenith, and impossible below the horizon. Thus, many important galactic objects can only be studied using Southern Hemisphere observatories. Photographs are presented taken at the ESO observatory at La Silla, Chile, including pictures of the Magellanic Clouds, the galactic center, the Great Rift, and the Coal Sack.
