First detections of extragalactic N2H(+), SiO, H(C-13)O(+), H(C-13)N, and HN(C-13) are reported in an effort to study the properties of the dense molecular gas in the nuclei of nearby spirals with high infrared luminosities. The J = 1-0 line of N2H(+) was observed in the central parts of NGC 253, Maffei 2, IC 342, M82, and NGC 6946. Unlike other density tracing molecules in M82, N2H(+) is stronger toward the center of the galaxy than toward its ring. Toward the southwestern hotspot, densities become so large that even HCO(+) appears to be depleted. The N2H(+)/CS, N2H(+)/CO, SiO/CS, SiO/HCN, and SiO/HCO(+) intensity ratios of the present extragalactic sources are all within the range observed in the Galaxy and provide important clues for the physical and chemical state of the gas. The H(C-13)N/HN(C-13) integrated line intensity ratio of NGC253 is substantially larger than in cool dark clouds.
