I will summarize the results described in Gnat & Sternberg 2007 (ApJS, 168, 213), in which we present up-to-date computations of the equilibrium and non-equilibrium ionization states and cooling efficiencies in radiatively cooling gas. We solve the coupled time- dependent ionization and energy loss equations for a radiating gas cooling from an initially hot, >5e6K, equilibrium state, down to 1e4K. We consider gas metallicities between 0.001 and 2 times solar, and cooling at either constant pressure or constant density. We present our computational results in convenient on-line figures and tables (see http://wise-obs.tau.ac.il/ orlyg/cooling/). We demonstrate the impact that departures from equilibrium have on the observed properties of metal-ion absorbers. I will conclude by describing recent computations of the non-equilibrium cooling column densities in steady flows of cooling gas, such as may occur in the post-shock cooling layers of fast shock waves.
