Accretion disks are widely believed to be the source of the optical/UV continuum in active galactic nuclei. However, continuum colors of AGN do not track disk temperatures as expected, remaining constant or becoming redder with higher disk temperature (Bonning et al. 2007, ApJ 659, 211). Here we study the relationship between the emission lines and the disk temperature as inferred from the AGN bolometric luminosity and black hole mass. We compute the predicted ionizing continuum from AGN accretion disk models for the observed range of disk temperatures (80,000 K -- 1,000,000 K). We compare the predicted emission-line intensities, which vary substantially over this range of temperature, with those observed. We also discuss modifications to standard disk models which may account for the observed line intensity -- disk temperature relation.
