The hydrogen B-alpha emission around the region of the Becklin-Neugebauer (BN) object has been mapped. An extended distribution of B-alpha emission around the BN object has been found. This emission appears to arise in the foreground nebula M42. A local maximum of B-alpha emission at the BN object has been observed whose strength is in quantitative agreement with previous observations by Grasdalen (1976). A marginal detection of the B-gamma line toward BN suggests the visual extinction may be approximately 35 mag to the object.
