A brief review of the history of gravitational theories is presented noting the development of the curved space idea. This idea is further discussed with reference to various models illustrating the development of a black hole. Consideration is also given to the notion of curved time with reference to Euclerian observers of Minkowski spacetime. Models describing evolving spacetimes as an elastic medium are reviewed along with hypotheses concerning collisions of black holes
