It is shown that cosmological evolution has a pronounced effect on the contributions of active galactic nuclei to the diffuse X-ray background. The dependence of such contributions on the form and amount of density evolution, on the deceleration parameter, and on the formation epoch is obtained. In particular, it is found that X-ray Seyferts can account for all of the observed 2-10-keV background when the effects of evolution are considered; the required amount of evolution is intermediate between the evolution of quasars and no evolution.
