One of the best planetaries for autumn and early winter skies must be NGC 1535 in Eridanus. Although almost 13° south from the UK, it is still an easy bright object that shows a lot of structure to the visual observer. At x100 the central star (12th mag) is surrounded by, but well separated from, a bright ring of nebulosity about 20 arcsec diameter. Fitting an OIII filter brings a fainter outer ring into occasional view.
