High-dispersion coude spectrograms have been used to reconstruct the motions in the atmosphere of AC Her. The situation is found to be considerably more complex than previously thought. Especially mysterious is a highly red-shifted component that appears during times of rising light, it being most conspicuous during the rise to primary light maximum. Some basic limitations on the nature of this layer are derived. Also reported for the first time is He I emission, discovered during the rise to primary light maximum. Combining the new data with previous work it is found the main velocity curve can still be understood in terms of simple radial pulsation with deviations from exact repetition from cycle to cycle. The origin of the high-redshift components is not clear, but they may be produced by partial reflection of the outward moving pulsation.
