Galaxy mergers are believed to play a fundamental role in the evolution of galaxies. In order to observe these mergers and close galaxy pairs at high redshift and avoid many of the problems caused by cosmic variance, a large deep field is necessary. The 2-sq degree Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS) field is ideal for studying the evolution of galaxies with redshift. We have used the extensive multiwavelength dataset available in the COSMOS field to identify a complete sample of luminous (L*) closely separated (5-20 kpc) galaxy pairs out to z=1.2. Here, we analyze a subset of several kinematic galaxy pairs with follow-up spectroscopy obtained with DEIMOS on Keck II. We study the morphology of these pairs using deep HST/ACS imaging along with deep optical and near-infrared ground based imaging. Finally, we examine the infrared properties of these pairs by looking at the infrared fluxes observed in deep infrared imaging obtained with Spitzer IRAC/MIPS at 3.6-24 microns.
