The discovery and study of transient and variable sources, has been a major part of modern astronomy.
While this has lead to tremendous excitement at nearly all wavelengths (from Gamma-ray bursts at high energies to Pulsars in the radio), the mid-IR regime is so far unexplored. The observational design of S-COSMOS offers an unprecedented view into the variable sky on time scales of minutes to days. Our preliminary results on 2000 sources detected in XMM-COSMOS show that about 10% exhibit significant flux fluctuations in the IRAC[3.6um] band. We present initial analysis of these sources and possible interpretations for their variability.
