The problem of the origin of asteroids with diameters greater than 84 km (group S) and greater than 150 km (group C) is discussed. C-asteroids are located in regions where the accumulation of material from the protoplanetary nebula was most effective, and are bodies which formed within the asteroid belt itself. It is proposed that it is possible that some S-type asteroids were formed in various regions of the Solar System with a subsequent transformation of their orbits into orbits characteristic of minor planets.
