Molecular hydrogen can be a major component of the cool solar photosphere in magnetic regions. The steep dependence in the abundance fraction of the molecular species with temperature can produce strong relative density gradients that can dominate the local hydrostatic pressure. These pressure gradients can produce "diffusive" shock fronts that may have important dynamical consequences on, for example, sunspot penumbrae formation. We explore some simple analytic and numerical multi-fluid models that illustrate these dynamical effects.
