SIT vidicon and photographic observations are presented of three globular cluster candidates in the field of the nearby edge-on late-type spiral galaxy NGC 55. All three candidates, which appear nonstellar on plates taken in excellent seeing, have radial velocities that agree with that of NGC 55. The spectrum of the brightest cluster shows strong hydrogen lines which, together with the photoelectrically measured B-V and U-B colors of 0.10 and -0.16 respectively, suggests that this cluster is a young globular cluster analogous to those found in the LMC. The spectra of the other two clusters are consistent with the interpretation that they are old and metal deficient.
