Calculations over a wide density range are presented for thermal and electrical conductivities due to electron scattering on phonons in the degenerate cores of white dwarfs and the envelopes of neutron stars. The main contribution to scattering in the stellar zones considered comes from Umklapp processes which, in the lower temperature zones, are frozen out, resulting in a sharp growth of electrical and thermal conductivities. It is suggested that such processes would make nuclear burning more stable in such zones.
