The status of the Japanese X-ray astronomy program is reviewed. Japanese X-ray astronomy satellite HAKUCHO is still active, although four proportional counters for very soft X-rays ceased to function in August 1980. The second X-ray astronomy satellite ASTRO-B is now under final check-out. The main instrument on board is a set of scintillation proportional counters. The operation of ASTRO-B will be limited by the sun angle smaller than 60 deg from the rear side spin axis. Since the view axes of most detectors are parallel to the front side spin axis, targets to be observed should lie within a circle of radius within 60 deg from the anti-Sun direction. The design of the third X-ray astronomy satellite ASTRO-C has been almost freezed. The main instrument on board is a set of large area proportional counters which will be fabricated in collaboration with the Leicester group. ASTRO-C is a satellite of three-axis control. Its launch is expected in 1987, so that the continuous coverage of X-ray sky will be attainable in 1980's.
