The Vela 5B satellite monitored the entire X-ray sky for a period of 10 years, from May 1969 to June 1979. The data were reanalyzed and produced into a series of skymaps. The maps were made into a color movie which shows the changes in the X-ray sky over the period 1969 to 1976. During the lifetime of the X-ray counters, the Vela spacecraft produced data on X-ray transients, X-ray bursts, and gamma ray bursts. the Vela gamma ray detectors revealed the phenomenon of gamma ray bursts. It is found that at least two gamma ray bursts are also detected by the X-ray counters.
