A list of 114 new galaxies with ultraviolet excess found by a 40-arc-sec Schmidt telescope with a 1.5-deg objective prism is given. A first examination of the plates, which cover approximately 1500 square degrees on the sky, reveals spectra from 3147 galaxies. Of these, 19 percent exhibit ultraviolet excess. Estimates of the corresponding numbers that would result from a second examination give 4600 and 18 percent, respectively. The approximate value of 18 percent is taken as the relative number of galaxies with ultraviolet excess for the complete sample. It is concluded that a stage characterized by ultraviolet excess is a frequent and long-lasting phenomenon in galaxies.
