The answer, we shall see, must be z equals 3-if the expansion is flat,
matter-dominated, hence slow. I show that gravitational lenses are the
best hope for definitely getting out into the Hubble flow and hence for
measuring the true values of the cosmological parameters. The source of
one known lens system, B1422+231, is definitely in the Hubble flow.
