The X-ray flash XRF 011030 observed by BeppoSAX has a light curve characterized by several outburst activities with the last detected flare occurring about 1300 s after the burst. We perform the temporal and spectral analysis of XRF 011030, study the late X-ray flare and compare it with the late afterglow emission observed by Chandra. We study the late X-ray flare in the contest of several variants of the external shock model and finally explain it as the beginning of the afterglow emission from a thick shell fireball emitted by a long duration central engine activity. We find that the late X-ray flare and the afterglow can be described both in a stellar wind and in a uniform interstellar medium (ISM).
