Optical absorption bands of the simple interstellar CN and CH molecules (3875A, 4300 and 3886A respectively) were applied to determine their column densities in a sample of 85 OB stars. Equivalent widths of the major 5780 and 5797 diffuse bands (DIBs) were measured along the lines of sight toward the same stars. These data were acquired using four echelle pectrographs situated in both: Northern and Southern hemispheres. The carriers of the major 5780 and 5797 DIBs seem to be spatially correlated rather with column densities of CH than of CN molecule, suggesting that they are likely hydrocarbons.
